Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary
Looe Key is rapidly being recognized as North America's premier diving and snorkeling location. Located in the Florida Keys, Looe Key Reef is a classic spur and groove coral formation, with an abundance of hard and soft corals populated by all of the tropical reef fish you find on the fish id cards. You'll be amazed at the abundance of life and the beauty of the coral. When a diver can drag his eyes away from these, he is often rewarded with sightings eagle rays, turtles, and schools of tarpon and barruccudas.
For the diver wishing to make several trips to Looe Key, the reef can be divided into several very distinct and different dive sites, providing an opportunity for many days of diving without duplicating the experience.
The Adolphus Busch
A 210' freighter that was intentionally sunk on December 5, 1998 in the Florida Keys. Lying midway between Looe Key and American Shoals, the Adolphus Busch rests upright and intact in 120 feet of water with the superstructure rising to within 60 feet of the surface. Sponges and soft coral are well established, and the hard corals are The marine life is abundant, and there are several safe swim throughs on the wreck. A 350 pound Goliath Grouper can often be found near the cargo holds, and large schools of Barracuda's are common.
To ensure diver safety, all of our dives on the Adolphus Busch are fully guided dives. Computers are required and avialable for rent if you do not own one. A dive on this wreck is usually followed with a dive at Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary. Or if everyone wants, we could do both tanks on the wreck.
The Vandenberg
Considered by many to be the premier wreck dive in American waters, the wreck of the Vandenberg is a must dive for any wreck diving fan. As the second largest artificial reef ever sunk, the 523-foot-long Gen. Hoyt S. Vandenberg is situated about seven miles south of Key West. The bottom of the ship's hull rests on sand in depths that average 145 feet. But the ship is so massive that the superstructure begins about 45 feet below the surface. Most of the diveable superstructure lies between 60 and 90 feet. All of our dives on the Vandenberg are fully guided dives. Inquire about our "Ultimate Vandy Trips" including a night dive!
